production process
Raw material preparation:
The first step in making titanium elbow is to prepare the raw material, starting with cutting and grinding the titanium block to the desired size and surface finish.
Making Pipe Billets:
In the process of making titanium elbow, the titanium block first needs to be heated to an appropriate temperature, and then it is shaped into a billet by forging, extruding, or rolling.
Hot treatment:
In order to improve the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the titanium elbow, the billet needs to be heat treated. Heat treatment includes two steps of annealing and solution treatment. Annealing is to heat the billet to a certain temperature and then cool it under appropriate conditions to eliminate stress and improve grain structure. Solid solution treatment is to heat the billet to the solid solution temperature and then cool it rapidly so that the elements are uniformly dissolved in the titanium matrix to improve strength and hardness.
pickling:
In order to remove the oxide skin and impurities on the surface of the billet, it is necessary to pickle the billet. Acid washing can use strong acids such as nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, soak it in the acid for a period of time, and then rinse it off with water. This can effectively improve its surface finish and purity.
Tube billet forming:
The fabrication process involves moulding the billet to get the desired shape and size of the pipe. The main methods of forming are cold drawing, hot extrusion and spinning. Cold drawing is the most commonly used method, by placing the pipe billet into a cold drawing machine and using tensile force and the action of the mould. It makes it gradually slender and finally gets the required diameter and wall thickness.
Annealing, pickling, polishing:
After the tube billet is formed, it needs to be put into the vacuum furnace for the return treatment, after that, the surface impurities are removed by acid washing, and finally the surface of the titanium tube is polished by using mechanical or chemical methods to make the surface of the titanium tube smooth and bright.
Cuting and bending:
Cut the pipe to the desired length. This cut pipe is then placed on a mandrel. In the next step, with the help of hydraulic tools, the pipe is pushed onto the mould while induction coils heat the tubing to form the elbow. Finally, the elbows are sent for heat treatment and machining before being checked for appearance and dimensions.
