FAQ

 

Q: What gas do I need to weld titanium?

A: To tig weld titanium, we recommend using 100% argon. But you can add helium to the mix as well.

Q: How many amps to weld titanium?

A: Titanium by nature is a low temperature material and in fact welds colder than stainless steel. We recommend around 30 amps if running autogenous (without filler) and tweak from there depending on your style and peddle engagement.

Q: Why does my titanium weld keep cracking?

A: This is due to the fact that ti oxidizes very easily to form tio2 which is a brittle intermetallic that can act as a site for crack initiation in the metal.

Q: How do you prep titanium for welding?

A: Wearing nitrile gloves, apply an industrial cleaning agent such as acetone or methyl ethyl ketone (mek) to a lint-free cloth and wipe the inside edges and outer surface of the pipe to remove any contaminants.

Q: What size wire for titanium welder?
