  1. Unique properties of titanium alloy plate

Titanium alloy sheet has many compelling features. Its low density makes the overall structure lighter; its high specific strength and high flexural strength ratio give it excellent load-bearing capacity; good plastic toughness and high elongation mean that it has good deformation capacity and is not easy to break. However, the development, smelting and use of titanium is difficult, which can easily lead to the misunderstanding that titanium is difficult to apply.

The chemical activity of titanium has two sides. At room temperature, titanium is very stable in air and is not susceptible to chemical reactions; however, at high temperatures, it shows great chemical activity and can react with a wide range of gases. In terms of thermal conductivity, titanium as a metal, thermal conductivity is not slow, just compared to some common metals to be much slower. Data show that the thermal conductivity of titanium is close to that of stainless steel, about one-fourteenth of that of aluminum and one-fifth of that of iron, which makes it a great potential for application in the automotive industry.

Widely used equipment and components

Titanium sheets are used in the marine industry mainly due to their excellent corrosion resistance, low density, memory and non-magnetic properties. Titanium and titanium alloys are used in an extremely wide range of applications, covering all types of ships such as nuclear submarines, deep submarines, atomic icebreakers, hydrofoils, hovercraft, minesweepers and many other components such as propellers, whip antennas, seawater pipes, condensers, heat exchangers, acoustic devices, fire-fighting equipment and so forth on board ships. At present, the main titanium alloys used include industrially pure titanium, Ti - SARV, Ti - 6Al - 4V, Ti - 6Al - 2Nb - Ta - 0.8Mo, Ti - 3Al - 2.5V, Ti - 3B (Ti - 4Al - 2V), NT - 7M (Ti - 2Al - 2.5Zr) and so on.

Application practice of all-titanium ship

In the manufacture of titanium boats, all-titanium boats have a number of significant advantages, light weight makes the ship more flexible; fast speed, can reach a farther destination in the same time; small engine, reducing the space occupation of equipment; low fuel costs, reducing operating costs; low carbon dioxide emissions, in line with environmental requirements; no surface coating, simplifying the maintenance process; accessories are easy to clean, to keep the ship neat and clean. However, there are some disadvantages of all-titanium ships. High material cost increases the initial investment; difficult processing and manufacturing process requires high technology and equipment; strict protection requirements require additional protective measures to ensure its performance. The results of ship tests show that the all-titanium ship performs well in terms of speed, stability, vibration and noise.
